About Joey
Since picking up drumsticks at four years old, music's been my life. Trained by greats like Mike Johnston, Wayne Tucker, Jon Faddis, Kenny Washington, and Willie Jones III, I received my Masters of Music from Purchase Jazz Conservatory in 2026. I'm now based in Brooklyn, and I teach in Brooklyn and Manhattan and gig in NYC and beyond.
Since moving to NYC full time, I've been gigging regularly in combos led by amazing musicians like Wayne Tucker, Halle Cook, Shaina Lewis, Fabien DuChateau, Lucia Vysohlid, Luke Hart, and Walter Miller, as well as leading my own Joey Porth Trio.
As much as I love sharing my music with live audiences, I'm equally passionate about sharing my knowledge and approach to music with my students. Skills, theory, composition, gigging, networking, and the business of music — I'm here to pass on anything I know to anyone who wants to soak it up.
